Global Wetland Methane Modeling

Representation of land processes in Earth System Models, and how the land interacts with the atmosphere and climate, remain uncertain. Our group works on many components of the land model in E3SM (ELM) to improve these representations. We incorporate mechanistic process treatments, perform comparison and testing against observations, and apply the model to analyze historical, contemporary, and future effects of land processes in the coupled Earth System. In this context, we have recent work focusing on terrestrial hydrology, soil biogeochemistry, plant physiology, plant hydraulics, coupling between plants and soil, and wetlands.
